Academic Programs and Centers
Investing in strong academic programs is one of the wisest decisions college donors can make.
Most colleges and universities offer a wide array of programs, but their quality varies. ACTA identifies academic programs that foster intellectual curiosity, rigorous scholarship, and free inquiry. Supporting these programs signals to universities that donors value areas of study that might otherwise be overlooked.
Through our Oases of Excellence and Hidden Gems initiatives, ACTA highlights programs and centers that are dedicated to the liberal arts and encourage engagement with a wide range of perspectives. Together, these programs create vibrant campus communities rooted in dialogue, discovery, and academic excellence.
Oases of Excellence
The Oases of Excellence network includes over 90 faculty-led academic centers. These centers offer students a mix of opportunities, including fellowships, internships, seminars, and other activities geared toward creating a strong intellectual community. Centers may provide specialized courses, research opportunities, and lecture series with outstanding scholars. They focus on the traditional liberal arts, entrepreneurship, free speech, civic education, and leadership.
Oases of Excellence ListHidden Gems
Hidden Gems are honors programs, major degree programs, minor degree programs, and certificate programs that guide students through a high-quality and coherent interdisciplinary education across the liberal arts. These programs focus on classroom instruction. They all emphasize building community around dialogue and learning, and several offer fellowships or scholarship programs.
